What we did

Aldworth James & Bond was invited by the South East Makers Club to take part in SEMC 2017 weekend, as part of London Design Festival. The club aims to promote the creative businesses, design talent and maker community in the south east of London by following a trail through the area, including special exhibitions, pop-ups and talks. And as a proud part of the Deptford making community, we were super happy to participate!

We offered a ‘Day of Making’ to members of the public, giving the makers a chance to fabricate their own piece of furniture at our workshops. The birch plywood pieces were cut by our CNC technicians, then given to the makers to be de-tabbed, sanded and glued together, making their own three-legged stool.

The makers were shown how to use the Japanese flush-cut saw, as well as the best practice for gluing and sanding. We were so happy to see real enthusiasm, determination and care put in to the making of the stools, by everyone who attended, as well hosting a special event at our workshops. Thanks to all who attended!
