What we did

Aldworth James & Bond worked with design and architecture studio DK-CM to construct and assemble Folk in a Box, the UK’s smallest music venue. Created to host only one performer and one audience member at a time, the Box unit was built as a set of fourteen panels for ease of construction, as well as allowing regular transportation to venues at music festivals and street performances, including its debut at the 13th Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, 'Common Ground’.

Our digital fabrication team CNC routed each panel on both the interior and exterior faces, with sound insulation sandwiched in between. The panels were then spray finished by our finishing team, before final assembly. Our team’s attention to detail in both the manufacture and assembly ensured a perfect fit for the Box, and just the right result for such an intimate and unique performance space.
