What we did

Aldworth James & Bond’s Works team fabricated and installed a one-off plywood staircase for a private residence in east London. Working with multidisciplinary design studio Borheh and Blue Engineers on the concept, our team undertook the CNC routing phase, delivering layers of plywood treads that were ‘stacked’ around a central hollow column, secretly fixed with over three hundred oak dowels. 

Each removable step layer was laser cut with a custom pattern. After digital fabrication at the Aldworth James & Bond workshops, our site team completed the install of the project. The staircase was highly commended in the 2017 Wood Awards.
