Looking back at 2016. What a year!

Back to Index

It's pretty easy to neglect looking back at what we've been up to as the year winds down.... what Aldworth James & Bond has achieved in the last few months and what's changed. But! We've torn ourselves away from the 2017 planning and preparation, to cast our minds back and pick out some of our highlights.

The year got off to a flyer with the completion of the Chisenhale School play structure, designed by good friend of AJ&B Asif Khan and sponsored by the American Hardwood Export Council. Next up was revealing one of our most polished and well-designed residential joinery projects ever - Parkgate House - for property development company Banda, architects FourFourSixSix and main contractor Icon. AJ&B Studio also completed the design and fit-out of Today Studios, a new co-working space set up by the very cool dudes at Accept & Proceed. The summer saw the official opening of our additional workshops at Parkside — MASSIVE excitement for us as a company. Parkside means increased workshop capacity, better metalwork facilities, and of course, the excuse to throw some good old fashioned workshop drinks. Good times.

We completed another retail project for Nike, this time in Paris at the brand new Les Halles store. And the end of the summer brought a really fantastic month of London design projects including coordinating the build of the Smile for AHEC and building the "Forests" Installation for MINI Living and Asif Khan, both headline projects for the London Design Festival. We even squeezed in the Central Bar feature installation at 100% Design.

And if 2016 couldn't have got any better— our very good friend Helen Marten went and won the Hepworth Prize for Sculpture AND the Turner Prize. Awesome.

We're looking forward to what 2017 will bring, and thanks for the part you've played in supporting what Aldworth James & Bond is all about: designing and building beautiful things. Merry Christmas!

Goodbye Greenwich... Hello Deptford!
